In a major collaboration, U.K. gas company Linde and clean energy leader NextEra Energy Resources have announced plans to develop a $1 billion hydrogen facility in the western region of metro Phoenix. This innovative project aims to provide sustainable power for up to 3,000 trucks and reduce dependence on diesel fuel.
Known as the Gila Hydrogen Facility, this venture will be situated in Tonopah, located approximately an hour west of Phoenix (see image). According to reports from the Phoenix Business Journal, it is estimated that this facility will generate around $40 million in state income and local property taxes within its first two decades of operation. Additionally, it is expected to create 300 construction jobs along with 30 highly skilled positions at the site itself and another 60 jobs for truck drivers who will transport hydrogen from the facility.
Notably, Linde is also constructing a separate $600 million gas plant as part of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s complex in northern Phoenix. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments!
