Nauset Construction has recently completed the second phase of the Union 346 Apartments, located at 3 Hawkins St. in Somerville, MA. This transit-oriented apartment community consists of 59 units and was built to meet Passive House standards. The project was a joint venture between John M. Corcoran & Company (JMC), The Grossman Companies, Inc., and SMT Development – marking their second consecutive multifamily development in Somerville’s Union Square.
According to Tim Corcoran of JMC, “The design for Phase II at Union 346 reflects our commitment to sustainability while also addressing the need for market-rate and affordable housing near public transportation.”
Phase II of this project was specifically designed and constructed to meet the strict requirements set by the Passive House Institute US. Currently undergoing final certification review by this institute, these standards ensure that buildings are airtight with high levels of insulation and ventilation – providing residents with improved air quality, consistent indoor temperatures, reduced noise pollution, enhanced natural lighting as well as minimized mold risks.
