National CORE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing affordable housing, has recently commenced construction on its 24th community in San Diego. This project is part of a long-standing partnership between National CORE and the County of San Diego, the San Diego Housing Commission, and the City of San Diego to address the region’s pressing housing crisis. The new development, called The Iris at San Ysidro, will consist of 100 homes including 15 permanent supportive housing units for individuals who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness.
With a current portfolio encompassing 20 communities throughout San Diego County, National CORE plans to open three more developments in 2024 followed by The Iris in 2025. In total, these projects will provide over two thousand apartment homes across the county.
According to Jeff Davis interim president & CEO at SDHC: “The Iris at San Ysidro development will be an answer for low-income families facing challenges with finding suitable housing.” He also added that “the collaboration between SDHC and partners such as National CORE is crucial in creating more developments like this one.”
This latest venture by National Core marks another significant step towards addressing affordable housing needs within our community.
