Chicago is gearing up for a first-of-its-kind event in the motorsports industry: the Chicago Street Race Weekend. On July 1 and 2, NASCAR’s Cup Series Race, named “Grant Park 220,” and Xfinity Series Race, called “The Loop 121,” will pass through many of downtown Chicago’s renowned landmarks. Drivers will take to major city roads like Columbus Drive, Michigan Avenue and Lake Shore Drive as they wind along Lake Michigan around Grant Park.
Expected to draw more than 50,000 fans per day from all over the world, NASCAR officials predict this race will bring an economic impact of over $100 million to local hotels and restaurants as visitors fill up Windy City establishments. To provide classic fare at several locations during this weekend celebration of speed racing culture in Chicago’s streetscape landscape ,NASCAR has partnered with Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria , Garrett Popcorn Shops ,and Vienna Beef .
