NASCAR Comes to Chicago: Get Ready for Month-Long Street Closures in July!

Residents of Chicago will need to plan ahead for street closures and parking restrictions around Grant Park this summer due to the inaugural Chicago Street Race. Beginning June 2, parking restrictions in part of the park will be implemented, according to a traffic plan made public by the city Monday. Over subsequent weeks, traffic lanes and entire streets including DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue will close until all roads reopen on July 15.

The city is setting up grandstands, fences, and hospitality suites for the race event over July 4 weekend; however access remains open to Museum Campus, Buckingham Fountain as well as nearby homes and businesses during setup or during event hours. City officials are encouraging alternate routes while closures are in effect.
