“NAIOP SoCal-Sponsored Bill for Extended Notice of Zoning Changes Signed by Newsom”

"NAIOP SoCal-Sponsored Bill for Extended Notice of Zoning Changes Signed by Newsom"

Governor Gavin Newsom of California has officially signed AB 2904 into law, marking a significant milestone for NAIOP SoCal as it is the first bill they have sponsored. This new legislation aims to increase transparency by doubling the notice period given to affected property owners by cities or counties regarding zoning changes.

Under AB 2904, property owners will now receive a notification period of 20 days instead of the previous 10 days before any hearings on proposed zoning changes take place. This extended time frame allows property owners ample opportunity to prepare and engage with these potential changes. Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-67) was responsible for crafting this bill in order to address the issue of insufficient notification for commercial property owners throughout California.

Timothy Jemal, CEO of NAIOP SoCal expressed his gratitude towards Governor Newsom for signing this important legislation into law and also thanked Assemblymember Quirk-Silva for her efforts in garnering bipartisan support. He also acknowledged their Sacramento partner, the California Business Properties Association and Senior Director Jose Cornejo who played a crucial role in moving AB 2904 forward through both legislative chambers.

In addition, pictured from left are Jose Cornejo, Skyler Wonnacott (NAIOP SoCal member), Tim Jemal (CEO), Sharon Quirk Silva (Assemblymember), Patrick Schlehuber (NAIOP SoCal member) and Charles Wilson (NAIOP board member).
