H-E-B, a popular grocery store chain, is expanding its reach beyond big cities. A new location is currently under construction in Murphy at FM 544 and McCreary Road. This store will serve the residents of Plano and Richardson as well as those living in Murphy, which has a population of just over 21,000 people. The store is expected to open in 2026 and will provide employment opportunities for approximately 600 individuals.
Murphy’s growth can be seen through its increasing population – from only having around 3,000 residents twenty years ago to now having over seven times that number. The newest H-E-B location will cover an area of about 122,000 square feet and offer not only groceries but also features such as a deli with a cheese and charcuterie island, drive-thru pharmacy services,and True Texas Barbecue restaurant along with an on-site sushi chef.
Founded back in the year1905,the company now operates four different brands: H-E-B itself,Latienda,a superstore option called H-E-B Plus,and Joe V’s Smart Shop which offers budget-friendly options.The San Antonio-based retailer generates close to $50 billion annually,making it one of the top retailers nationwide,rated at number nineteen overall.
