Mott Haven's New Charter School Focused on Basketball Begins Construction

Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, a legendary Basketball Hall of Famer, recently led the groundbreaking ceremony for The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx. This innovative high school is being designed by ESKW/Architects and IMC Architecture and is set to open its doors in early 2026.

Located at 647 Elton Ave., near Third Avenue and East 152nd Street, this five-story building will be one-of-a-kind in the United States. It has been leased from developer Pillar Property Management for a long-term period. JV Construction & Consulting will serve as construction manager while Brisa Builders will act as general contractor.

According to Jonathan Imani, AIA, principal at IMC Architecture: “Upon completion in early 2026, this impressive structure spanning over 69,000 square feet will feature state-of-the-art athletic facilities along with modern learning spaces including an expansive gymnasium measuring over 8
