Mixed-Use Residential Building in Harlem Reaches Completion

National Black Theatre, Ray, and LMXD have announced the topping out of a 21-story arts and culture hub in Harlem. Located at 2031 Fifth Avenue, this project will serve as the permanent home for National Black Theatre, founded by Dr. Barbara Ann Teer in 1968. Designed by Frida Escobedo Architects and Handel Architects with an active voice approach to design, it includes a 27,000-square-foot space for the theater along with commercial spaces on 125th Street and a communal living room open to all members of the community.

The project is set to be completed in late 2024 with its theater opening early in January of that year. This development marks an important milestone as it is also one of the first projects utilizing New York City’s Visual and Performing Arts bonus program.

This mixed-use residential building has been highly anticipated due to its significant contributions towards promoting arts and culture within Harlem while providing much-needed housing options through its inclusionary zoning component.
