**Microsoft Partners with Sublime Systems to Reduce Construction Emissions with Low-Carbon Cement**
Microsoft has entered into a landmark agreement with Sublime Systems, a Somerville, Massachusetts-based company, to significantly reduce construction-related carbon emissions through the purchase of low-carbon cement. The technology company has committed to purchasing up to 622,500 metric tons of Sublime Cement over a six- to nine-year period.
Deliveries of the eco-friendly cement will begin from Sublime Systems’ first commercial factory in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and continue through its future full-scale production facility. The cement is produced using Sublime’s proprietary technology, providing a lower-carbon alternative to traditional cement.
As part of the agreement, Microsoft has secured a priority option to utilize Sublime Cement in its construction projects, including datacenters, office complexes, and other infrastructure developments—wherever geographically feasible. A key innovation of the deal is the ability to purchase environmental attribute certificates (EACs) separately from the physical cement, further enhancing flexibility and environmental accountability.
“This purchase enables Microsoft to access Sublime’s low-carbon cement technology regardless of where their construction is,” said Dr. Leah Ellis, CEO and co-founder of Sublime Systems. “Microsoft is stepping up as the first customer for our future megaton-scale plant, enabling us to more rapidly build and scale Sublime Cement as a global, enduring solution for clean construction.”
This partnership positions both companies at the forefront of sustainable construction innovation, advancing the goal of decarbonizing one of the most emissions-intensive industries in the world.
