"Microsoft Expanding South Africa Presence"

According to a public filing, Microsoft has announced plans to expand its data center campus in Medina County by more than double its current size. The company intends to construct a one-story building spanning 244,000 square feet and offering space for up to five potential customers. Construction is scheduled to commence in April 2026 with an estimated cost of $482.6 million.

Last year, ConnectCRE reported that the tech giant had initially planned for a smaller campus of only 106,000 square feet at a cost of $230 million.

Dubbed “SAT82,” this will be the third data center on the campus located just north of Castroville and approximately ten minutes away from it. The two existing buildings are expected to be completed this quarter while construction on SAT82 is projected for completion in the first quarter of 2028.

The San Antonio Business Journal states that Dallas-based companies Stream Data Centers and CyrusOne have recently begun work on separate projects totaling over 1.7 million square feet on the far west side of town. Other major players such as Vantage Data Centers, Amazon.com Inc., and CloudHQ are also involved in expanding their presence within Medina County’s growing data storage market.
