Mickey Barreto Indicted for New Yorker Hotel Fraud Scheme

Mickey Barreto, the founder of Mickey Barreto Missions, is facing charges for attempting to fraudulently transfer ownership of New York City’s iconic New Yorker Hotel to his religious organization. The Manhattan District Attorney has charged him with 14 counts of offering false documents and 10 counts of criminal contempt.

Barreto’s alleged scheme began in 2019 when he stayed at the hotel for one night and then tried to turn it into a long-term rental lease. He then filed falsified documents claiming ownership of the hotel, including a deed transfer worth $189 million and attempts to gain control over bank accounts associated with the property.

Despite being ordered by a court not to file any more false documents, Barreto reportedly continued his efforts in April and September 2023. As a result, he was removed from the premises by Holy Spirit Association for Unification World Christianity (HSA-UWC), which owns the hotel.

This recent development involving Mickey Barreto has caused quite a stir within New York City’s real estate community as well as among those following this case closely. It remains uncertain what consequences will befall Mr.Barretos actions but one thing is certain: justice must prevail.
