MIA Approves $400 Million Cargo Handling Expansion

Miami International Airport (MIA) is set to undergo a major expansion with the approval of a $400 million investment from private companies. This will result in the construction of a state-of-the-art four-story cargo facility, which will be the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. The project, led by Miami Gateway Partners – a joint venture between Airis Aviation Development and Vantage Airport Group – aims to increase MIA’s cargo capacity by 50% or potentially up to two million tons per year.

The upcoming Vertically Integrated Cargo Community (VICC) at MIA will cover nearly 800,000 square feet and occupy 11 acres of airport land. It is expected to have significant economic benefits for the local community, including creating over 8,500 temporary jobs during five years of design and construction with an estimated total wage earnings of $500 million.
