Methodist Healthcare Ministries is moving forward with plans to develop a 250-room hotel in the heart of the South Texas Medical Center in San Antonio. The hospitality project is the first phase of a larger mixed-use concept known as Ministry Park, which is planned for a 16-acre site in the medical district.
Ministry Park is slated to rise on land bounded by Wurzbach Road, Floyd Curl Drive and Medical Drive, placing the project among existing commercial uses already active on the block. Nearby retail neighbors include a Walgreens, a Chick-fil-A restaurant and a Starbucks location, underscoring the medical center area’s established base of daily-needs and quick-service offerings.
The initial building in the development will be a dual-branded hotel carrying both the Hilton Garden Inn and Home2 Suites by Hilton flags. The planned 250 rooms will be divided between market-rate accommodations and discounted options reserved for low-income families who need temporary lodging. At least 15% of the keys are expected to be offered at a discount for qualifying guests under this model.
The hotel is scheduled to break ground this year, with the development timeline targeting an opening in late 2028 or early 2029. That construction window positions the property to come online as the broader Ministry Park vision begins to take shape on the surrounding acreage.
Project costs for the dual-branded hotel are estimated at around $38 million. The investment is intended to expand lodging capacity within the South Texas Medical Center while also introducing a structured affordability component for families who may be under financial strain while accessing nearby healthcare services.
As the first component of Ministry Park, the hotel will help establish the character and activity level of the mixed-use site once delivered. Its location within a major regional medical hub, alongside existing retail, highlights the continued appeal of healthcare-adjacent hospitality development in this part of San Antonio.
