McKinney Back to Square One on Redevelopment Project
Progress on the much-anticipated downtown redevelopment project in McKinney has hit a major roadblock. M2G Ventures, the firm initially selected to lead the effort, has withdrawn from the venture, which was set to bring new commercial developments and parking opportunities to the area.
The McKinney City Council had chosen M2G Ventures in early 2024 to redevelop a five-block area of downtown. The project was ambitious in scope, featuring plans for a mixed-use block that would include restaurants, office space, and buildings as tall as five stories. Other components included a six-story hotel with event and commercial space, a five-story multifamily building with an integrated parking garage, and 12 newly constructed townhomes.
With M2G Ventures stepping away from the deal, the city is now evaluating its next steps. The issue is expected to be discussed during an upcoming council meeting.
M2G Ventures, a Certified Women-Owned Business based in Fort Worth, Texas, has an extensive track record in real estate development. According to the company, it has acquired more than 4.5 million square feet of property since its inception, covering projects such as adaptive reuse, mid-century warehouse transformations, historic building redevelopments, and large-scale Class A industrial developments.
The McKinney community now awaits new direction on how the downtown area will move forward.
