McCarthy Breaks Ground on Housing for UC Riverside and City College Students

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has commenced construction on the $285-million North District Phase 2 Student Housing Development at University of California, Riverside (UCR). Spanning 424,000 square feet, this groundbreaking project is one of the first in California to accommodate students from both UCR and Riverside Community College District.

With a significant increase in enrollment at both UCR and RCCD colleges, there is a pressing need for more housing options. This development aims to alleviate the current shortage by providing affordable accommodations.

According to VP Sarah Carr at McCarthy: “We are honored to be involved in this innovative project that bridges the gap between larger universities and community colleges.” She adds that this housing development will not only benefit UCR students but also contribute towards higher graduation rates for those attending Riverside City College – ultimately benefiting the entire community.

The first residents are expected to move-in by 2025.
