Bethesda, Maryland-based Marriott International has announced it will acquire a controlling interest in citizenM, a rapidly growing lifestyle hotel brand, in a $355 million deal.

The acquisition will grant Marriott a majority stake in citizenM’s global portfolio, which includes 36 operational hotels totaling 8,544 rooms. These properties span more than 20 cities across the United States, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. The brand also boasts a development pipeline of three additional hotels under construction, expected to open by mid-2026 and add over 600 rooms.

CitizenM, headquartered in the Netherlands, operates as a global hotel developer, investor, and chain known for its contemporary and tech-savvy approach to hospitality.

“We are thrilled to add citizenM as a unique, differentiated offering to our select-service brand portfolio as we continue to strengthen Marriott’s foothold in this valuable market segment around the world,” said Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International.

Morgan Stanley & Co. International plc and Eastdil Secured served as financial advisors to the seller in this transaction.
