Marquette Completes Adaptive Reuse of West Loop Hospital into Apartments

Marquette Companies has recently completed the development of The Thompson at Fulton Market, a mixed-use apartment building located in Chicago’s vibrant Fulton Market neighborhood. This 12-story glass and concrete structure is situated on the former site of Mary Thompson Hospital, named after Dr. Mary Thompson, who was known as Chicago’s first female doctor and pioneer in major surgeries.

The newly constructed building features 210 units ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments, including 32 affordable units. It also includes ground-floor retail space spanning over 2,400 square feet. The property seamlessly integrates an original five-story brick building from the hospital that dates back to the 1920s.

Designed by ParkFowler Plus with Power Construction as its general contractor, The Thompson boasts a unique facade that adds character to this historic location. Additionally, local artist Lefty Out There (aka Francesco Campanella) has contributed several murals for the property.
