CRE Market Beat Take
Marcus & Millichap’s decision to install a dedicated national leader for its net lease division underscores institutional focus on scaling advisory services in this segment. For investors, this points to sustained brokerage and advisory competition around net lease capital deployment and portfolio strategy.

Marcus & Millichap has created a new senior leadership role to oversee its national net lease division and has appointed commercial real estate veteran Thomas Gorman as senior managing director to fill the position. The company announced that Gorman will lead the division focused on net lease assets, reflecting an organized effort to support growth in this specialized line of business.

In his new capacity, Gorman is tasked with overseeing the continued expansion of Marcus & Millichap’s national net lease platform. His mandate includes partnering with agents across the firm to reinforce existing client and industry relationships, while also seeking out opportunities to expand the franchise in the net lease segment. The role is national in scope and is explicitly centered on identifying and pursuing strategic growth initiatives in net lease investment sales and advisory.

According to Marcus & Millichap, Gorman will work closely with the firm’s brokerage professionals to help them enhance service to institutional investors, real estate investment trusts, developers, and private clients that focus on net lease transactions. His responsibilities include supporting agents in their efforts around acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and broader portfolio strategies for single-tenant and other net-leased assets, as described by the company.

Gregory A. LaBerge, Marcus & Millichap’s chief client officer, highlighted Gorman’s track record in the net lease space in announcing the appointment. LaBerge characterized Gorman as a proven leader with experience spanning net leased retail investment sales, institutional advisory work, and brokerage operations. That mix of skills was cited as making him well suited to guide the firm’s expanding national net lease division.

Gorman brings more than two decades of commercial real estate experience to Marcus & Millichap’s leadership team. Over the course of his career, he has held senior roles at national commercial real estate platforms, where he has advised institutional investors, REITs, developers, and private clients on strategies involving net lease acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and portfolio management. The company noted that he began his career specifically as a single-tenant net-leased investment advisor, providing early specialization in this segment of the market.

In addition to his advisory and transaction background, Gorman has been active in building brokerage capabilities, including recruiting, training, and mentoring investment sales teams. He has also been involved in launching brokerage offices, experience that Marcus & Millichap appears poised to leverage as it seeks to deepen and broaden its national net lease presence.
