MacKenzie Scott Donates $10 Million to Homestead Community Land Trust

MacKenzie Scott, a renowned philanthropist, has generously gifted $10 million in unrestricted giving to the Homestead Community Land Trust (HCLT), a Seattle-based developer and steward of permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for income-qualified people in King County. HCLT recently celebrated several milestones including the opening of Village Gardens in Central District Seattle, groundbreaking at The Southard – the first multi-unit affordable homeownership project in Tukwila – and cultivating a pipeline of projects that will build up to 200 new homes.

In response to this generous donation from Ms. Scott, Kathleen Hosfeld – CEO at HCLT – expressed her gratitude: “We are beyond grateful for this unprecedented investment into our work; it is an acknowledgement of our leadership role when it comes to addressing the housing crisis while building community wealth and partnering with communities facing displacement” She further added that “this gift will enable us accelerate our efforts towards creating homes which remain permanently accessible for current as well as future generations”
According research conducted by State of Washington , home prices have risen up seven times more than median household incomes within the area .
