The Kalimian family has recently sold their prestigious residential tower, Aire, located on the Upper West Side. The buyers of this property are the Gotham Organization and Carlyle Group for a whopping $265 million, as reported by The New York Post.
A&R Kalimian Realty, who developed the 43-story glass skyscraper at 200 West 67th Street faced financial difficulties due to struggling with payments since 2017. This led to a default on their $196 million mortgage for the building which consists of 310 units. As a result, they were forced to sell off the property after it entered maturity default and its loan was transferred to special servicing by JPMorgan Chase.
Despite being almost fully leased in June of 2022, Aire’s owners were unable secure new financing before November’s loan maturity date. Along with its residential units, this luxury tower also features ground-floor retail space and a parking garage. CBRE’s Darcy Stacom and Alana Bassen facilitated this transaction as brokers.
This recent sale highlights another major deal in New York City’s real estate market without mentioning any specific company or organization involved.
