**Lurie Children’s to Open New Pediatric Hospital in Downers Grove**
Lurie Children’s Hospital has announced plans to develop a new community-based, low-acuity pediatric hospital in Downers Grove, Illinois. This will be the organization’s first inpatient facility located outside its primary campus in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood.
The Downers Grove hospital is designed to provide localized, coordinated healthcare that is centered on children and their families. The planned facility will feature a pediatric emergency department, surgery suites, inpatient beds, and key pediatric subspecialties — all aimed at improving access to comprehensive pediatric care and bringing new economic opportunities to the surrounding region.
To bring this vision to life, Lurie Children’s has engaged a high-profile design-build team led by Clayco, in collaboration with nationally recognized healthcare design and construction experts from Skender, ZGF, and LJC. The project is currently in the early stages and subject to regulatory approvals.
This announcement follows the hospital’s recent opening of a state-of-the-art outpatient center in Schaumburg. In addition to its main Chicago location, Lurie Children’s operates over 20 outpatient centers and partners with 10 hospitals throughout the Chicago area, highlighting its ongoing commitment to expanding healthcare access for families across the region.
