Lovett Commercial to Repurpose Houston's Old Farmer Bros. Coffee Plant

Adaptive reuse has become a popular strategy among the development community since Covid, with hotels being converted to apartments, offices to hotels and sprawling industrial sites transformed into small personal spaces. Houston-based Lovett Commercial is now revealing new details for their historic Farmer Bros. Coffee Plant project which will be repurposed from a factory into an arts, entertainment and multifamily complex.

According to the Houston Business Journal, Lovett Commercial plans on cutting atriums into the building in order to bring in natural light as well as stripping away interior infrastructure so that existing concrete columns and materials can be revealed. Talks are currently underway with a charter school while remaining space would be set aside for art studios, music studios and other creative workspaces; additionally they plan on transforming the roof of the building into an event space complete with bar facilities. Phase two may include multifamily construction work which could begin around 18 months from now
