Lovett Commercial to Repurpose Houston's Old Farmer Bros. Coffee Plant

Adaptive reuse has become a popular strategy among the development community since the onset of Covid-19, with hotels being converted to apartments, offices becoming hotels and small personal spaces emerging from sprawling industrial sites. Houston’s Lovett Commercial is now revealing new details for their historic Farmer Bros. project which will transform this former factory into an arts, entertainment and multifamily complex.

The Houston Business Journal reports that Lovett Commercial intends to cut atriums into the building in order to bring in natural light as well as strip away some interior infrastructure so that existing concrete columns and materials are revealed. The company is also currently discussing plans with a charter school while reserving space for art studios, music studios and other creative workspaces; additionally they plan on transforming the roof of this building into an event space complete with bar area – phase two may include multifamily dwellings if all goes according to plan. Construction work on renovating this site could begin within 18 months time frame or sooner depending on progress made by then.
