**Van Wilgen Garden Mart Acquires Former Smithland Supply Store in Southington, CT for $3.2M**

Matt Halprin, president of New England Retail Properties, Inc., has successfully brokered the $3.2 million sale of the former Smithland Supply Pet & Garden Center located at 1198 Queen Street in Southington, Connecticut. The property was acquired by Van Wilgen Garden Mart, a family-owned and operated multi-unit garden center with deep roots in the region.

Founded in 1920, Van Wilgen Garden Mart currently operates multiple locations across Connecticut, including Branford, North Branford, Clinton, Old Saybrook, and Guilford. The newly acquired Southington property aligns with the company’s strategy of acquiring well-positioned retail sites capable of serving strong local communities.

The site, formerly operating as Smithland Agway, was owned by a New York-based investment group. Smithland had managed 15 locations throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts before ceasing operations at the end of June 2025. New England Retail Properties acted as the exclusive broker representing the sellers in the transaction.
