LogosFaith Development has begun work on its first project in the San Diego market, breaking ground on Logos Logan Legacy Place in partnership with Logan Temple AME Zion Church. The ceremony was held at the project site at 3186 and 3190 Franklin Ave. in San Diego, where the partners marked the start of construction on a 43-home affordable housing community. The development represents an expansion move for LogosFaith Development, an affordable housing specialist extending its footprint into the San Diego area.
The community is planned as an affordable housing development aimed at local residents, with the partners highlighting the role of faith-based land in meeting housing needs. By locating the project on church-owned property, LogosFaith Development and Logan Temple AME Zion Church are looking to retain the congregation’s longstanding neighborhood presence while adding new housing options in the immediate area.
According to Pastor Martin Porter, founder and CEO of LogosFaith Development, the groundbreaking represents the culmination of a vision that has been under consideration for nearly six years. He linked the effort to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s mountaintop speech and its emphasis on a more equitable future, framing the project as part of a broader effort to help address the housing crisis facing the community. Porter described the goal as creating a development that could signal a new chapter for the city and neighborhood by leveraging faith-based land for housing.
A key design element of Logos Logan Legacy Place is the adaptive reuse of the church’s existing fellowship hall. Rather than demolishing the structure, the project centers on repurposing it within the new residential community, allowing the church to preserve an anchor building that has served the neighborhood over time. This approach combines historic continuity with the introduction of additional affordable homes.
Delivery of Logos Logan Legacy Place is scheduled for 2028, positioning the 43-home project to contribute new housing stock later in the decade. The development team, church leadership, and local public officials participated in the groundbreaking event, underscoring local support for faith-based partnerships in affordable housing delivery. As LogosFaith Development enters the San Diego market with this project, the firm is using a model that integrates adaptive reuse, community institutions, and long-term housing needs into a single initiative.
