"Local Economy Boosted by Chicago Marathon with $547M Impact"

According to a recent independent study, the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon had a record-breaking impact on the city’s economy, contributing $547 million. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s impact of $386 million and brings the cumulative economic impact since 2017 to over $2.3 billion.

The report by Jones & Associates Economics revealed that last year’s marathon attracted 48,472 participants, representing an impressive growth of nearly 13% from 2022. Additionally, it was found that international visitors made up about one-third (35%) of total participants.

In terms of job creation and income generation, the marathon directly contributed to over $182 million in wages and salary income for local workers in various industries. It also supported approximately 3,694 full-time jobs in Chicago.

Interim president and CEO of Choose Chicago Rich Gamble commented on this remarkable achievement: “At over half a billion dollars in economic activity generated by this event alone, it is clear that the Bank Of America Chicago Marathon has been one of our region’s most powerful drivers for economic growth.”
