The city of Portland has given the green light to a proposal for a new concert venue in the Central Eastside area. The project, which is being led by local firms Beam Development and Colas Development Group along with California-based Live Nation, will be able to accommodate 3,500 fans and cover an impressive 62,000 square feet near the Hawthorne Bridge.
Despite facing opposition from some locals who have accused Live Nation of engaging in anti-competitive behavior (prompting scrutiny from the U.S. Justice Department), this development team has received clearance from the city to proceed with their plans. Interestingly enough, Portland is currently one of few major cities in America without its own Live Nation-owned or operated venue.
In addition to this project, another concert venue is also being pursued by Monqui Presents and Anschutz Entertainment Group – two companies based out of Portland and Los Angeles respectively – who are collaborating on building a larger music space that can hold up to 4,250 attendees at Lloyd Center Mall.
