Chicago Public Library announced Monday that two new libraries will be incorporated into mixed-use developments planned for the Back of the Yards and Humboldt Park communities on Chicago’s South and West Sides. As part of the city’s INVEST South/West initiative, each library will serve as an anchor to MXUs featuring residential and commercial spaces.
Maurice Cox, Commissioner of Chicago Department of Planning and Development, expressed his excitement about these projects: “The inclusion and creative reimagining of library resources as community hubs within these buildings elevates them to a new level – making them civic icons.”
Each facility is designed with early childhood active learning space in mind along with programs for children, teens, families; free one-on-one homework assistance; technology access; resources; classes through YOUmedia program – all inspiring exploration creativity & learning.
