Lagunitas Brewing Co. Announces Closure of Chicago Brewery and Taproom

Lagunitas Brewing Co. has announced plans to relocate its brewery operations from Chicago to California, resulting in the permanent closure of its Chicago taproom. The decision was made in order to “future proof” the company and adapt to changing trends within the craft beverage industry.

According to a statement released by Lagunitas, they will continue operating their warehouse in Chicago but will be closing their on-site taproom. This move is expected to impact 86 local employees who may have the opportunity for relocation or transition into remote roles at the California facility.

“We are committed to managing this transition thoughtfully and with respect for our valued employees,” said Sam Kennedy, spokesperson for Lagunitas.

Founded in Petaluma, California back in 1993, Lagunitas opened its Chicago facility just six years ago. Despite this closure announcement, they plan on maintaining a presence within the city by continuing partnerships with bars, restaurants and stores that serve their beers.

This news marks an important shift for Lagunitas as it looks towards securing long-term success within an ever-evolving industry landscape.
