LA Housing Goals Impeded by Entitlement "Bottlenecks": Study

A new study released Thursday by the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) has revealed that bottlenecks in the entitlement process are hindering Los Angeles’ ability to meet its housing objectives. The research suggests reforms that could significantly increase production, as five times more housing units must be built by 2029 than were constructed during last decade.

The researchers found that expanding affordable housing policies and increasing master planning utilization, among other reforms, would drastically boost production of homes.  Paul Krekorian, President of LABC commented on this finding stating “This study clearly indicates we need to streamline the approval process if we want to achieve our desired goals for housing.” He further added “I’m pleased to say [Los Angeles] Planning Commission has approved my motion forgoing Site Plan Review for affordable projects and many mixed-use/mixed-income projects with a substantial component of affordable homes.”  These steps taken towards reform may help Los Angeles reach its ambitious targets set out in regards to providing adequate living spaces within city limits.
