Jacksonville University and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) have announced a partnership to construct a new medical school with an estimated cost of $50 million. According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, the school will be located at 3412 N. University Blvd and will be known as LECOM Jacksonville at Dolphin Reef. The building, which will span 50,000 square feet, is expected to house 75 students upon its opening in 2026 and eventually expand to accommodate up to 150 students.
As the largest osteopathic academic health system in the country, LECOM brings extensive expertise and resources for this project. The medical school will be situated next to JU’s Health Sciences Complex, creating what is being called the Jacksonville University Medical Mall – a growing mixed-use healthcare plaza located on JU’s Arlington campus.
This development marks an expansion of JU’s presence in downtown Jacksonville for higher education opportunities alongside their existing law school program. This collaboration between two esteemed institutions aims to provide top-notch medical education while also contributing positively towards enhancing healthcare services within the community.
