Integrated Senior Lifestyles has moved a step closer to developing a new independent living community in Plano, as the city’s planning commission has granted its approval for the project. The proposal still requires a final sign-off from the city council, so the development is not yet fully entitled, but the recent commission action indicates forward momentum for the plan.
The project envisions a 242-unit senior housing community designed as an independent living facility. It is slated for a site near the intersection of Ohio Drive and Park Boulevard, on land formerly occupied by the Plano Athletic Club. That facility closed in 2025, opening the way for a new use on the property.
The planned building will rise five stories and is described as having a broad slate of on-site amenities tailored to older adults seeking an amenity-rich, maintenance-light lifestyle. Food and beverage offerings will include restaurant-style dining, a coffee bistro, and a bar lounge, giving residents multiple options for meals and social interaction within the community.
Health and wellness features are also central to the design. Plans call for a combination indoor and outdoor pool, a recovery sauna, a hot tub, and a fitness center, along with a dedicated yoga studio. These elements are aimed at supporting both active recreation and relaxation, while keeping services conveniently located within the same complex.
Recreational and social programming will extend beyond wellness, as the project is expected to incorporate an indoor pickleball court, acknowledging the sport’s popularity among many seniors. The community will also provide a variety of spaces for hobbies, entertainment, and quiet activities to accommodate a range of resident preferences.
Planned interior common areas include a library, an art studio, a game room, and a media room, offering space for reading, creative pursuits, and group events. These shared spaces are intended to support resident engagement and create opportunities for ongoing programming and social connection.
Personal services and convenience features are also built into the concept. The plans reference an on-site salon, concierge support to assist residents with day-to-day needs, and scheduled transportation. Together, these offerings are designed to reduce reliance on personal vehicles and simplify access to appointments, shopping, and local destinations.
While the project still awaits a final determination from the Plano city council, the planning commission’s approval marks a key milestone for Integrated Senior Lifestyles as it advances this 242-unit, five-story independent living community at the former Plano Athletic Club site.
