Illinois Receives $15M Federal Grant to Expand EV Charging Network

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has recently announced that the state has secured $14.9 million in competitive federal grant funding from the US Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program. The Illinois Finance Authority (IFA), acting as the Illinois Climate Bank, was selected to receive this funding to support the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the state.

According to Governor Pritzker, this investment from federal partners will ensure that all residents of Illinois have access to electric vehicles. This statewide initiative will be a collaboration between IFA and local and regional partners, covering 273 project sites with 144 located in or near disadvantaged communities. A total of 845 level 2 charging stations and 36 DC fast charge stations will be installed through this program.

This announcement marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation options in Illinois while also addressing environmental concerns. With these funds, EV charging infrastructure can be expanded throughout various communities in an effort to make it more accessible for everyone.
