Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity have allocated $10 million in grant funding to three local film studios for infrastructure projects through the Illinois Soundstage Program. The Fields Studios in Chicago received $5 million, Fresh Films based in Rock Island received $3.8 million, and Flyover Studios located in Champaign will receive $1.1 million.
According to Governor JB Pritzker, there is a growing demand for film production space in Illinois. The goal of the program is to support studio projects that will strengthen the state’s streaming, TV, and film industries by providing funds for building or modernizing soundstages and production spaces. This initiative aims to attract large-scale projects while also boosting business opportunities for local vendors and creating employment opportunities.
Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton stated that the film industry has deep roots within Illinois but now they are actively promoting expansion as well as diversity within it.
