Houston’s historic River Oaks Theatre is set to receive a $5 million renovation, with the parent company of Houston-based Star Cinema Grill leading the charge. The 17,000 square foot theater is expected to reopen by the end of 2023 and will feature a full kitchen offering in-theatre dining plus wine and cocktails. Culinary Khancepts has been hired for makeover work while Gensler was tapped for design services and Star Commercial Construction Group as builder.
The lease for River Oaks Theatre was acquired from Kimco, who owns the shopping center it resides in. Prior to its closure in March 2021 due to failed negotiations with former landlord Landmark Theatres (Los Angeles), it had been operating since 1939 when Interstate Theatre Corp built it originally.
