The Houston Spaceport is looking to triple its footprint and invest $80 million in an expansion project that will attract more aerospace-related businesses, as well as hotels, restaurants and retail. Additionally, the second phase of the project will involve establishing the Aerospace Institute – an educational institution designed to train aerospace workers.
In addition to this, a taxiway located in northwest phases one and two is being developed which will enable aircrafts to take off or land next door from aerospace companies for unloading parts for their space stations.
Space Center Houston also plans on constructing Lunar Mars Surface Integration Facility – two large enclosed structures that simulate terrains of moon and mars respectively. Visitors can watch astronauts training within these structures from an elevated exhibit hall too!
This new facility would add at least 60,000 square feet of exhibit space along with existing 120,000 square feet making it a total 180K sq ft area! It’s expected that construction work should begin within next 2 years itself!
