A development team has been selected to spearhead the construction of an entertainment destination adjacent to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) is seeking to repurpose the 11-acre Home Depot Backyard, located next to the stadium. This green space, situated on the former site of Georgia Dome, currently serves as a popular parking and tailgating spot for fans attending Falcons and Atlanta United games as well as hosting various community events.
According to reports from Atlanta Business Chronicle, Pope & Land Real Estate, Fuqua Development and architecture firm Nelson Worldwide have been chosen for this project.
Pope & Land Real Estate has joined forces with Fuqua Development and Nelson Worldwide in previous projects such as The Battery Atlanta – a successful mixed-use development surrounding Cobb County’s Braves’ ballpark.
The proposed plan envisions a sprawling 250,000 square feet complex that will seamlessly connect state-owned properties including Georgia World Congress Center itself along with Mercedes-Benz Stadium plus Signia by Hilton Atlanta hotel which opened its doors in January earlier this year.
