"Home Depot Acquires Shuttered Jacksonville K-Mart"

Home Depot has announced plans to redevelop a former K-Mart location in Jacksonville, which has been vacant since 2016. The proposed project includes the demolition of the existing 105,737-square-foot building and construction of a new 133,123-square-foot home improvement center with an additional 25,225-square-foot garden center on the site’s expansive 11.5 acres.

The application submitted by Home Depot outlines details for site and parking lot improvements as well as an outdoor seasonal sales area measuring at approximately 8,575 square feet adjacent to the garden center.

While there were initial discussions about expanding Sun-Ray Cinema with a five-screen theater on this property, those plans were put on hold due to the impact of COVID-19 in early2020.

This redevelopment project by Home Depot marks another significant investment in Jacksonville’s retail market.
