Hoag has opened the Hoag Hospital Irvine Sun Family Campus, a $1-billion expansion that consolidates specialized hospitals, outpatient facilities, advanced surgical services and established clinical programs on a single integrated healthcare campus in Irvine. The project significantly enlarges the hospital’s physical footprint and service mix, positioning the campus as a more comprehensive destination for patient care within Orange County.
The newly delivered expansion adds six buildings to the existing hospital campus, creating a larger, more connected environment for inpatient and outpatient services. As part of the build-out, Hoag has increased its inpatient capacity by 155 beds. With the additional beds now in service, the hospital reports a total of 251 inpatient beds on the Irvine campus, representing a substantial capacity increase for the local healthcare system.
The expansion also introduces 120,000 square feet of ambulatory facilities, underscoring the shift toward outpatient and same-day care in modern healthcare delivery. These ambulatory components are designed to support a range of clinical programs and advanced surgical services, enabling more procedures and treatments to be delivered outside the traditional inpatient setting while remaining closely connected to the hospital’s core services.
In addition, the campus now includes what is described as Orange County’s first dedicated Cancer Urgent Care, adding a specialized point of access for oncology patients who need immediate attention. By situating this offering within the broader campus, the expansion is intended to improve continuity of care for patients who require urgent evaluation alongside ongoing cancer treatment and specialist support.
