A new Barnes & Noble bookstore is set to open in Wicker Park, marking the company’s second location in Chicago this year. The store will be housed in the historic Noel State Bank building, following the recent opening of a Lincoln Park location on W. Diversey Parkway.
The iconic building, which was previously a Walgreens and home to Noel Street Bank, will now be occupied by Barnes & Noble on its entirety spanning 26,133 square feet. Located at 1601 North Milwaukee Ave., it is situated within Chicago’s landmarked Milwaukee Avenue District and holds significant historical and architectural value.
With strong sales reported at its existing stores, Barnes & Noble has been expanding rapidly with plans to open nearly 60 new locations by 2024. Store Manager James Pioth expressed excitement about bringing the popular bookseller to such a vibrant community: “We are thrilled for this opportunity to bring Barnes & Noble into such an energetic neighborhood.”
