High-Speed Rail Authority Clears Final Segment of Bay Area to LA Route

The California High-Speed Rail Authority board of directors has officially approved the final environmental document for the 38-mile segment between Palmdale and Burbank. This marks a significant step towards connecting downtown San Francisco to downtown Los Angeles, with speeds reaching up to 220 mph.

According to the authority, this section will allow for a quick and efficient train trip of approximately 17 minutes from the Antelope Valley to the San Fernando Valley. With this approval, funding permitting, construction on this section can begin soon. This is now the third environmental certification in Southern California and second in Los Angeles since 2022.

“This project has immense potential for transforming not only California but also Los Angeles County,” stated Brian Kelly, CEO of the authority. He emphasized that this milestone brings us closer to connecting these two major cities in under three hours while also providing unprecedented access between Palmdale and Burbank.
