Hundreds of workers have been laid off by Grubhub, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. In a written statement, the company said: “After much consideration and evaluation of our business, we have made the difficult decision to reduce Grubhub’s workforce by 15%, impacting approximately 400 of our corporate employees.”
Prior to this layoff announcement, Grubhub had nearly 2,800 workers including 850 at its Burnham Center headquarters in 111 W. Washington Street in Chicago. CEO Howard Migdal commented on the situation saying: “While our business has grown since our 2019 pre-pandemic levels, our operating and staff costs have increased at a higher rate. These changes will help ensure we have the right resources and structure to focus on future business priorities and opportunities.”
In 2021 Just Eat Takeaway – an Amsterdam based rival company – acquired Grubhub for $7.3 billion with Migdal being named as CEO after longtime executive Adam DeWitt announced his departure from the firm earlier that year
