Ground has been broken on Commonwealth, a 12-acre development in Plaza Midwood that will offer office, retail, hospitality and apartment space. Crosland Southeast and Nuveen Real Estate acquired the site for $50 million in November 2020. It includes two vintage buildings that were once home to Cole Manufacturing facility.
The project will include 383 apartments as well as 150,000 square feet of office space with balconies overlooking the historic structures. A road is being constructed to make the area walkable while also highlighting its 100+ year old buildings. Micro-retail opportunities are planned along with murals created by local artists and green wall installations for added aesthetic appeal.
When completed this joint venture between Crosland Southeast and Nuveen Real Estate promises to be an exciting addition to Plaza Midwood’s landscape offering a unique mix of amenities not found elsewhere in Charlotte or surrounding areas!
