Governor Gavin Newsom of California has recently signed legislation that will provide more than $2.5 billion in disaster relief. This funding is intended to support ongoing emergency response efforts and jumpstart recovery initiatives, according to the governor’s office.
The legislation, known as ABx1-4 by Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino) and SBx1-3 by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), was passed during a special session. It aims to expedite firestorm response and recovery efforts, streamline rebuilding processes, and assist with rebuilding damaged school facilities. The allocated funds are broken down as follows:
-$2.5 billion for immediate firestorm response and recovery efforts including emergency protective measures, evacuations, sheltering for survivors, debris removal/cleanup,
post-fire hazard assessments,
traffic control, and other necessary emergency activities.
-$4 million for expediting rebuilding processes through additional planning review/building inspection resources provided by the Department of Housing
and Community Development.
-$1 million specifically designated towards helping local educational agencies impacted by fires such as Los Angeles Unified School District,Pasadena Unified School District, and charter schools in need of technical assistance with rebuilding their damaged facilities.
Governor Newsom expressed his gratitude towards legislators who helped make this aid possible stating,”Thanks to our partners in the legislature we’re able to provide over $2.5 billion in immediate relief which will help speed up initial firestorm responses.” He also added that millions would be directed towards assisting local governments with building approvals so residents can rebuild their homes faster.

This is not really an appraisal forum but that… This is not really an appraisal forum but that looks to be around early ’80s or so and in very good condition. If everything works well then $200-$250 would be fair IMO if you were selling it….

The Fruits of My Labor!
I’ve been working hard lately trying new recipes out on my family. I have always been a good cook, but I’ve never really enjoyed it. It’s just something that I have to do in order for us to eat and stay healthy.
But lately, things have changed. Maybe it’s the new kitchen with all of its gadgets and toys; maybe it’s my increased interest in food since joining Weight Watchers; or maybe – as Eric says – “I’m finally growing up.” No matter what the reason is, I am enjoying cooking more than ever before.
I still don’t like cleaning up after myself though!
Last night was no exception. We were having company over for dinner tonight so last night was prep time… making sure that everything went smoothly today when we had our guests over.
The first thing on my list was a pot of beans which would be used both as an ingredient in one dish (Mexican Lasagna) and also served on their own at dinner tonight.
Next came dessert: Lemon Meringue Pie! This is not your ordinary pie recipe either… this one comes from Cooks Illustrated Magazine where they are famous for testing recipes until they come out perfect every time!
Lemon Meringue Pie
Ingredients:
Crust:
1 1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter , cut into ¼-inch pieces
3 tablespoons vegetable shortening , chilled
5-6 Tablespoons ice water
Filling:
½ cup juice from about 3 lemons (see note)
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest (see note)
3 large egg yolks plus 1 large egg white beaten lightly with fork
8 Tablespoons unsalted butter cut into small pieces( see note)
7 Tablespoon cornstarch( see notes)
Pinch table salt
Meringue:
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
Pinch table salt
5 large egg whites
1. For the crust: Process flour, sugar, and salt in food processor until combined. Scatter butter pieces over flour mixture; pulse to cut butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse sand, about ten 1-second pulses. Add shortening and continue pulsing until mixture is pale yellow and resembles coarse crumbs, with bits of both pea-size and dime-size butter pieces remaining throughout , about three 1-second pulses.
2.Turn mixture into medium bowl.
3.Sprinkle 5 tablespoons ice water over mixture . With blade of rubber spatula , use folding motion to mix . Press down on dough with broad side
