"Government Awards $1.6B Grant to TI for Sherman Chip Factory"

Texas Instruments, the largest U.S. manufacturer of analog and embedded processing semiconductors, is set to receive up to $1.6 billion in direct funding under the CHIPS and Science Act for their three 300mm wafer fabs currently being built in Texas. Additionally, they expect to receive an estimated $6-8 billion from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Investment Tax Credit for qualified manufacturing investments.

This proposed funding will help TI ensure a reliable supply of analog and embedded processing semiconductors, which are used in a wide range of electronic devices such as cars with advanced safety systems, life-saving medical equipment, and smart appliances that make homes more efficient.

Specifically, this direct funding will support two new wafer fabs located in Sherman,Texas by providing resources for constructing and building cleanrooms (SM1 & LFAB2) as well as completing pilot lines for first production. It will also aid in constructing the shell (SM2) needed for these facilities.
