Google is set to allocate $400 million towards expanding its data centers in Nevada. The tech giant already has a strong presence in the state, with two major facilities completed in 2020 – a 750,000 square foot facility worth $600 million in Henderson and another one worth the same amount in Storey County. These projects were made possible by receiving tax breaks of $25 million from the state.
Since breaking ground on the Henderson data center back in 2019, Google’s total investment into Nevada has surpassed $2.2 billion. The company plans to further enhance its existing facilities at both locations with this latest investment.
One key factor for these data centers is their significant water requirements. To address this issue, Google has invested over $4.7 million into water stewardship projects within Las Vegas Valley and Lower Colorado River Basin regions since establishing operations there. In fact, they have replenished more water to the Colorado River Basin than what was consumed at their Clark County data center just last year (2023). This shows their commitment towards sustainable practices and responsible use of resources.
