Google and CME Partner to Construct Chicago-Area Trading Facility in the Cloud

CME Group, based in Chicago, has announced a partnership with Google Cloud to construct a new private Google Cloud region and co-location facility in Aurora, Illinois. This expansion builds upon the companies’ existing collaboration launched in 2021. According to CME Group Chairman and CEO Terry Duffy, this marks an important advancement in their partnership with Google Cloud that is transforming the industry.

The private Google Cloud region will house a specialized platform designed by Google specifically for global trading of CME Group’s futures and options markets. By locating this platform within the new private cloud region near Chicago, clients of CME Group will have access to existing connectivity options as well as connections to other international markets.

Construction on the Aurora-based private cloud region is set to begin later this year. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud stated that this latest milestone further supports their shared goal with CME Group of accelerating their transition into the cloud and driving innovation within capital markets infrastructure worldwide.
