**GlobalFoundries Commits $16 Billion to Expand U.S. Chip Manufacturing**
GlobalFoundries announced plans to invest $16 billion in expanding its semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging capabilities at its facilities in New York and Vermont. The initiative is part of a broader collaboration with the Trump Administration and leading U.S. technology firms seeking to reestablish critical elements of their supply chains domestically.
This significant expansion responds to explosive growth in artificial intelligence, which is driving demand for next-generation chips optimized for energy efficiency and high-bandwidth performance across applications such as data centers, communication infrastructure, and smart devices.
Based in Malta, New York, GlobalFoundries is teaming up with major industry players including Apple, SpaceX, AMD, Qualcomm Technologies, NXP, and General Motors. These companies are aligned in their commitment to reshoring semiconductor production and diversifying global supply sources.
“At GlobalFoundries, we are proud to partner with pioneering technology leaders to manufacture their chips in the United States—advancing innovation while strengthening economic and supply chain resiliency,” said Tim Breen, CEO of GlobalFoundries.
The investment marks a pivotal step in enhancing U.S. competitiveness in semiconductor production while reinforcing national tech resilience in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.
