Ginkgo Bioworks Holdings Inc. is working to eliminate $65 million worth of excess space as part of its 2025 objectives. As a result, the cell programming and biosecurity company has canceled plans to move into Biofab1, a newly developed 260,000-square-foot lab data center near its current headquarters in Boston’s Seaport district. Additionally, the company has vacated its sites in Cambridge, making these spaces available for sublease.

According to its newly filed annual report, Ginkgo also began subleasing part of its headquarters at 27 Drydock Ave. in 2024. The company leases a total of more than 320,000 square feet of office and laboratory space at this facility, with 27,000 square feet already subleased and an additional 129,000 square feet currently available for sublease.

“I will say, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you are a growing biotech looking for space in Cambridge or Boston,” CEO Jason Kelly stated during Ginkgo’s 2024 earnings call.
